Gents Baume & Mercier: 18k Gold

Up for your consideration is this very stylish men’s vintage Baume & Mercier slim dress watch in solid 18k gold. Circa 1980s. Comes with original paperwork dated to 1988 and a modern Baume & Mercier box.

With gold prices going through the roof and the end of the world coming soon (only kidding, not kidding) imagine if there was an ark or a spaceship saving the the last of mankind and you wanted to get on it. Even if you had a bazillion dollars in worthless paper money, you probably wont get on. But if you had some gold, or better still, a gold watch, then you probably could barter your self on to that ship. Oh you want to know more about the watch instead of my doomsday selling technique? ok.

• The Model number is 17269 and at the time of writing, there isn’t another one for sale on the whole of the interwebs.
• The watch was first sold by watches of Switzerland ( Regent street, London) on the 20th of July 1988.
• It is solid 18k gold hallmarked on the caseback and on the inside of the caseback. The case is a very slim Octagonal barrel-ish shape. Octabarrel I think its called. Actually I just made that up.
• It has a Gold tone dial with slender baton hour markers and slender hands.
• The case measures approximately 28mm across, 33mm lug to lug and is about 4mm thick. So not a huge watch for todays gen-z or millennial standards.
• The Crown is the genuine crown with the Baume Mercier logo.
• It is powered by an ETA ESA 959.001 six jewel quartz movement. WHAT? Did he just say its a quartz movement? yes its quartz but you have seen me do some pretty nice quartz movements on the channel and this is a special one used by other top brands such as Omega, Longines and others.

And I have styled it with one my Hirsch straps from my Drawers of straps that you see on the channel. Hirsch are probably the best aftermarket strap manufacturer and ‘I think’ they also produce straps for other brands, which is undisclosed, hence why I said ‘I think’

If you don’t fancy my strap choice, then I’m sure I can change the strap to one of your choosing from my stash (I wont be offended even though I think myself as a style guru when it comes to strap choices) wink, cough.

The watch is in great condition and working as it should. New battery installed. I don’t think this piece was meant to be waterproof but if a teardrop accidentally falls on it, then it should be fine. It has some minor age related signs of use but nothing that requires a nekkid watchmaker makeover.

It comes with original sales card, booklet, International guarantee card and a very warn wallet. If you think the international warranty is still valid, then you need to see me in my office where I keep my cane. It also comes with a modern Baume Mercier box.

Bloody hell that was a long write up for my first listing. At this rate I don’t think ill get many items listed. I think the next few listings will just have to say ‘ FOR SALE, WATCH, WORKS’
